Stillness in the Jura

There are mornings that feel like a quiet secret. This was one of them.

I found myself in the rocky landscape of the Swiss Jura just before sunrise. The air was still and cold, the world not yet awake. The first light began to spill gently over the horizon, painting the sky in soft shades of red and gold. It was in this fleeting moment that I noticed them, two goats standing perfectly still among the rocks.

Their silhouettes, framed by the rising sun, created a scene that felt almost unreal. Light and shadow moved softly around them. The sharp textures of the Jura cliffs stood in contrast to the softness of the morning glow. The deep reds of dawn added a quiet tension to the image, as if the landscape itself was holding its breath.

What made this moment even more special was the closeness. Slowly and carefully I approached, step by step, until I was just two meters away. They did not move. There was a silent understanding, a shared stillness between us.

With my Leica M9 in hand, I captured the moment. No noise, no rush, just the sound of the shutter in a world suspended between night and day.

Photography at its best is not about chasing images, but about being present when something reveals itself. This morning in the Jura was exactly that, a gift of light, silence, and a brief connection with the wild.
